Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite scarab of ovoid form with a suspension hole drilled through the body. This ancient scarab has been set in a modern setting with a rope frame and off round shank. The setting is at least 60 years old but likely older.
THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS MAINTAINED THAT THE SUN WAS PROPELLED ACROSS THE HEAVENS BY MEANS OF A SCARAB. THE EGYPTIANS CREATED MANY AMULETS IN THE FORM OF BEETLES IN A GREAT VARIETY OF MATERIALS. THESE WERE ROUTINELY INSCRIBED WITH HIEROGLYPHS AND IMAGES CONVENIENTLY ACCOMMODATED TO THEIR STYLIZED FLAT UNDERSIDE.
HORSES WERE INTRODUCED IN EGYPT DURING THE SECOND INTERMEDIATE PERIOD (1700-1550 BC), SO THEY WERE A RELATIVELY NEW INTRODUCTION PRECEDING THE NEW KINGDOM. THEY WERE USED AS PLOW ANIMALS AND TO TRAMPLE SEEDS (SEE DESCRIPTION), AND WERE TO BECOME THE ANIMALS TO PULL CHARIOTS FOR THE ELITE AND THE MILITARY IN THE RAMESSIDE PERIOD.

Made to Order Items
Our made-to-order items typically take 4-6 weeks to craft with care. Once your item is ready, we’ll email you to arrange delivery. We appreciate your patience as we create your unique piece!
One-of-a-Kind Items
Our one-of-a-kind items are the only ones of their kind, and they are typically available for pickup/delivery within 24 hours of your order during our open business hours, Thursday thru Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 12-5. We will notify you via email when your item is ready for pickup/shipping. For items requiring resizing, please allow 2 weeks for us to complete the sizing before it ships.
Local Pickup
Pickup is available Thursday through Sunday in our Downtown Mystic Showroom. When your item is ready, you will be contacted via email to arrange a pick-up appointment.
Shipping
We will email you when your item is ready to ship. Please note that we ship via Fedex for items insured over $1,000, and an adult signature will be required upon delivery. If the item is insured over $5,000 it is shipped to a location that you will need to provide Identification for pick up as per our Insurer. We do not ship to PO Boxes for items over $1,000. Shipping and transit times are not guaranteed, and we do not take responsibility for any carrier delays. All items are shipped fully insured.
International orders are shipped via Fedex or DHL and are subject to tariffs and taxes outside of our control and are the responsibility of the purchaser.
Ring Sizing
The majority of our rings One-of-a-Kind.
If you would like to order a ring in a specific size please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
Helping you find the perfect fit is our priority. We offer a complimentary sizing for rings that need to be sized down within the 90 day purchase period. The sizing up cost will vary due to how wide the ring is and the amount of gold required for sizing.
Keep in mind that finger sizes fluctuate due to factors like temperature and time of day. Rings with an open space under the mounting, as well as contour bands, may fit differently than fully round rings.
Ring sizings take 2-3 weeks before they ship.

Our one-of-one items are the only of their kind and only available "as is.” We are happy to discuss the options for remaking a similar piece in a different metal to your specifications.
