Antique 14k Gold Abacus Pendant with Pearls
Antique 14k Gold Abacus Pendant with Pearls
Antique Abacus pendant with sliding pearls of substantial weight, size and thickness. The abacus is the oldest calculator used by many cultures through the centuries.
This version is beautifully made with corners that are assembled like they were cut with a miter saw. The pearls are threaded through thick gold wire that are riveted into holes made on the inside of the walls but the walls are thick enough that you do not see them from the outside edge.
Since abacus's have been made for centuries, it is difficult to date a piece but the 14k mark, the color of the gold, the type of pearls and the manner in which this piece is made and assembled guide me to believe this is a Victorian piece.
