Some gemstones carry history. This one carries centuries of it.
At the heart of this Georgian-inspired three-stone ring rests a 3.70-carat antique cushion-cut sapphire of Sri Lankan origin — and not just any sapphire. Recently submitted to GIA Laboratory, it returned with a result that stops collectors in their tracks: unheated. In today's market, where the vast majority of sapphires are routinely heat-treated to enhance color and clarity, an unheated Ceylon sapphire of this size is a genuine rarity. GIA Laboratory Report No. 6234347881 confirms what the eye already suspects — this stone is exactly as nature intended.
What Makes a Sri Lankan Sapphire Exceptional
Ceylon sapphires have been treasured for over 2,000 years and remain among the most coveted gemstone origins in the world. Their legendary status comes from the low-iron geology of Sri Lanka's alluvial deposits, which produces a characteristic cornflower-to-velvety-blue saturation with extraordinary transparency — that coveted "lit from within" luminosity. Unheated stones of this caliber command significant premiums at auction, and fine examples increasingly appear in major estate and collector sales. Some of the world's most celebrated sapphires — including the stone in Princess Diana's engagement ring — are Sri Lankan.
