Art Nouveau Griffin Ring | 10k Gold Madeira Citrine | Converted Brooch Ring | Petra Star
A griffin coils in on itself here, wings folding downward into a swept, feathered tail while its open mouth closes around a faceted citrine — the stone read, unmistakably, as something the creature is devouring rather than simply holding. This is Art Nouveau figural work at its most literal: the naturalistic, mythological creature-as-setting idiom the movement prized, rendered in 10k yellow gold with a bloomed finish that softens the metal's surface and lets the modeling of feather and fin catch light without the glare of a high polish.
This ring began as a watch fob brooch. The center stone is a round faceted madeira citrine, 5.2mm, bezel-set into the griffin's open jaw in a warm, saturated orange-brown that reads as genuinely eaten rather than merely mounted — the compositional joke of the piece, and the reason it photographs so well.
