Antique Silver Chrysoprase Converted Pendant
A beautifully proportioned example of early 20th-century brooch craftsmanship, this antique silver medallion was originally designed as a brooch circa 1900 or earlier and has now been thoughtfully converted to pendant form. The transformation preserves the piece's original integrity: we removed the pin findings and reused them to fabricate the new bail, so the original mechanism remains part of the work's history.
The medallion showcases a striking geometric composition centered on a framework of beaded and openwork silver, which frames seven round cabochon chrysoprase stones bezel set, and arranged in a radiant pattern that draws the eye outward from the center. Chrysoprase's soft green luminosity catches light beautifully in candlelight and daylight alike, and the cabochons' smooth, polished surfaces offer a tactile contrast to the dimensional silverwork surrounding them.
The face of the pendant is richly modeled with applied wirework and granular texturing, typical of the transitional period between Victorian ornament and Art Deco's cleaner geometry. The reverse is plain, allowing the bail to rest comfortably against the chest. The scale—just over 2 inches long with bail making this a substantial but wearable statement piece, neither delicate nor overbearing.
