Belcher Ring with 0.48-ct Antique Old Mine Cut Cognac Diamond
A 0.48-carat antique old mine cut diamond in a warm cognac brown, set low in a 14k yellow gold Belcher ring. The stone was cut by hand and measures 5 x 4.4 mm, with the soft, slightly irregular outline that marks the old mine cut. Its VS2 clarity lets the color read clean and deep.
The Belcher is one of the oldest ring forms still in use. The diamond sits in a cup that rises from the band itself, level with the gold and open to the air beneath and around it. The result wears more like a band than a cocktail or engagement ring. It stands 3.7 mm off the finger, so it slides under a glove and does not catch on a sweater.
