Victorian Ouroboros Snake Moonstone Ring

Symbolizing eternity, rebirth, and protection, the ouroboros has been a powerful motif since ancient times. This Victorian-era serpent coils into itself in an unbroken loop, grasping its tail in its mouth—a striking symbol of life’s infinite cycle. Crafted in silver and set with a luminous cat's-eye moonstone, the ring pairs mythic symbolism with a soft, ethereal glow. Subtle engraving gives texture to the serpent’s scales, enhancing its sinuous form. A beautiful example of 19th-century sentimentality and mysticism in wearable form.

The ouroboros is believed to have first appeared in ancient Egypt around 1600 BCE. It symbolized the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth. The serpent, often depicted in a circular form, represented the idea of eternity and the infinite cycle of all things.

The term "ouroboros" comes from the Greek words oura (tail) and bora (to eat). In the context of Greek philosophy, it was associated with the idea of unity and the material universe. Philosophers such as Plato and later Gnostics used it to illustrate the idea of the cosmos being self-sufficient and eternally renewing.
