Retro Fancy Light Yellow Diamond Solitaire
This 0.73-carat Round Brilliant diamond earned a GIA Fancy Light Yellow designation — a natural color grade, not enhanced, simply the stone's own warm character. It came to us set in a 1950s brooch, where it had been doing its best work behind a lapel. We thought it deserved a different life.
The mounting is its equal in character. A Retro-era 14k yellow gold solitaire, stamped 14K SKAL — the mark of a Scandinavian goldsmith, likely Danish, dating the piece to the 1940s–50s — it wears a quiet architectural trick with great confidence: the shoulders taper and shape in a way that reads unmistakably as flanking baguettes, though there is not a single additional stone present. Pure metalwork. The illusion of a three-stone ring achieved entirely through proportion and finish, a hallmark of Retro design sensibility, where the setting did the storytelling.
We occasionally bring two vintage pieces together when we believe they were meant to meet. This is one of those pairings. The low, secure four-prong setting holds the diamond nice and low, practical for the surgeon, the craftsperson, the nurse, anyone whose hands are always at work.
