A Ring That Rewrites the Story of Platinum
Before Art Deco made platinum the defining metal of an era, there was this.
Crafted at the turn of the twentieth century — when platinum was still a revelation in the jeweler's workshop — this Edwardian diamond chevron ring captures a pivotal moment in jewelry history. The marriage of warm 18-karat yellow gold with the cool austerity of platinum isn't a stylistic accident; it's a document. A record of a craft in transition, of artisans beginning to master a metal that would soon transform fine jewelry forever.
The design itself is quietly breathtaking. The shank rises in a graceful bifurcated sweep, the two gold arms diverging and then reuniting around a platinum chevron element set withOld European cut diamonds. One stone — round, bezel-set, slightly elevated — anchors the apex with quiet confidence. Below it, pavé-set companions trail along the platinum tongue in a descending arc, catching light with that warm, glassy depth that only Old European cuts can achieve.
This is a ring that wears beautifully as a stacker, reads as a standalone statement on the right finger, and tells a story that collectors of antique jewelry will immediately recognize and covet.
The diamonds are characteristically Edwardian in their selection: hand-cut Old Europeans. Clear, lively, and entirely appropriate to the period. The platinum setting shows the characteristic unoxidized brightness of the metal, contrasting crisply against the honeyed warmth of the 18K gold shank.
This is a delicate ring — precise and refined in proportion, as Edwardian jewelry invariably is. It sits low and close, made to be worn, not simply admired.
No hallmarks are present — consistent with American or Continental pieces of this era, where marking conventions were not yet standardized — but the construction quality, metal combination, and diamond selection are entirely period-authentic.
